The Academy gave “Green Book” the Best Picture trophy this year (yuck), so in protest we watched a movie that might be the exact opposite of an awards-bait drama. It’s “Street Fighter” The Movie, a film in which Jean Claude Van Damme enters a street fighting contest and… wait, how is that NOT the plot of this movie? M. Bison (the M. stands for Mister, amirite?) invades the country of Shadaloo, and it’s up to a peacekeeping force led by AMERICAN JCVD to take him down. “Street Fighter” spends its first hour working overtime to get all the characters into their ridiculous game costumes. WHERE IS THE FIGHTING? How is Raul Julia able to give such a glorious performance while also being deathly ill? How does this movie exist? Why aren’t we writing books about it? How do we get JCVD’s stealth Bat-boat?
